Bruening Battles Through Wet WoO Weekend
Tyler Bruening trekked south over the weekend for a scheduled trio of World of Outlaws (WoO) Late Model Series events. Unfortunately Mother Nature would wreak havoc throughout the festivities.
Thunderhill Raceway Park's scheduled debut with the tour on Thursday night was postponed by inclement weather for the second time this year.
The Skyline Motorsports Team was able to return to action on Friday evening at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) for the opening round of the Alabama Gang 100.
Forty-eight entries passed through the gate for the program, and the field was divided into two $4,000-to-win features. Lined up via qualifying times, Tyler started fourth on the feature grid. Bruening found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time, getting collected in an opening lap melee between Jimmy Owens and Ricky Thornton Jr.
After ducking into the pits for repairs Bruening rejoined the tail of the field but was only able to manage a 21st-place finish in the rain-shortened feature.
On Saturday evening the $35,000-to-win finale took center stage. Tyler missed the transfer spot from his heat race by two spots but was able to race into the feature via a runner-up finish in his heat race.
However, before the finale could be contested rain invaded the 1/3-mile oval, forcing the finale to be postponed to September.
