Bruening scores pair of podium finishes at Highland and Maquoketa with World of Outlaws
Starting off a four-day swing with the World of Outlaw Case Construction Late Model Series, Tyler Bruening and the Skyline Motorsports team checked into Highland (Ill.) Speedway on Wednesday afternoon for the Beat the Heat 40.
Laying down the quickest lap in his qualifying group, Bruening took the checkered flag in his heat race and redrew the outside pole for the $10,000-to-win main event. Taking the top spot on the initial start, Tyler led the first 18 laps before giving up the lead to Brian Shirley. Bruening settled for a third-place finish.
Thursday's visit to Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) was rained out.
Heading into Iowa on Friday afternoon, Tyler Bruening was one of 34 Super Late Models checked in at Maquoketa (Iowa) Speedway for the Hawkeye 100 weekend.
Coming out of the box quick, Tyler picked up a heat race victory and redrew the pole position for the 40-lap main event. Slipping outside the Top-3 early, Bruening was able to recover and score a podium finish in third behind Brian Shirley and Ryan Gustin.
For Saturday's $20,000-to-win finale, Bruening didn't quite find the same speed in his heat race but was able to charge from 14th-to-7th in the 60-lap main event to score a Top-10 finish.
